This display screen module, with diagonal of approximately 2.42 inches, is highly readable due to the high contrast offered by an OLED display. The light of each pixel can be turned on or off by the controller chip, and no backlight is needed as it has its own light source of white.
All OLED displays are mounted on a breakout PCB, accompanied by support circuitry. This enables you to utilize this remarkable little device with 3.3V (compatible with Feather or Raspberry Pi) or 5V (suitable for Arduino or Metro328) logic levels.
Moreover, an auto-reset circuitry has been designed, which makes the reset pin an optional component. As it communicates through the I2C interface, it can be effortlessly connected using merely two wires, namely the power wire and the ground wire.
Thanks to the I2C command structure, the firmware of the board maintains its speed by only updating the portion of the screen that undergoes changes. This is analogous to the concepts of “Dirty Rectangles” or “Bit blit” operations in the realm of computer graphics.
The power requirements depend somewhat on how much of the display is lit. On average, the display uses about 20mA from the 3.3V supply. Built into the OLED driver is a simple switch-cap charge pump that converts 3.3V-5V into a high voltage drive for the OLEDs.
This screen has high contrast due to its low power requirement. Its crispness and miniature size are also significant advantages preferred by both users and suppliers, making it one of the easiest ways to incorporate an OLED into your project.
